Event Spotlight
An inspiring and provocative message of hope in the role that each of us can play as philanthropists and community leaders in a complex world was shared at the Heinz Ethics Dinner on June 3, 2025, at the Athenaeum at Caltech.
Tim Cadogan P’21, ’24, ’27, CEO of GoFundMe; Jennifer DeVoll ’77, P’07, ’10, President & CEO of Pasadena Community Foundation; and John Horn ’78, P’18, ’22, Entertainment Correspondent for NPR’s 1A provided a thoughtful and timely panel discussion reminding us that we can have a profound impact through philanthropy as a way to express our deep commitment and compassion for community. As we saw in the robust, wide-ranging response to support our community members impacted by the Southern California wildfires, our individual contributions can demonstrate great love during moments of great sadness and loss.
This positive call to action came about at the Heinz Ethics Dinner, a decades-long tradition that reflects Poly’s commitment to the exploration of ethics in a wide variety of forums. Clifford S. Heinz, class of 1934, established Poly’s Character Education Fund in 1997. Heinz’s fund paved the way for a dinner to bring together notable speakers and distinguished guests for a conversation about ethics. Previous dinner conversations have looked at ethics in entertainment, sports, and more. Additionally, an anonymous donor in recent years has married their passions for ethics and fiscal stewardship by underwriting this event.
The Heinz Ethics Dinner also enables us to recognize and honor our Willis Stork Donor Club members for their loyal and significant support of the school. Thank you to our philanthropic leaders who have invested their time, talent, and passion, which has made Poly the exceptional place it is today, and will continue to be for generations of students to come.
