“My degree gave me the ability to understand our engineering challenges. With that knowledge, as a member of our Operations team, I can diagnose problems and generate solutions,” shares Ruben Almonte, Poly’s Operations Systems Engineer.
Through support from donors and endowed funds for professional development, Poly is proud to invest in the professional growth of our faculty and staff—strengthening individual careers while advancing our long-term goals.
Ruben Almonte, uncle to Emily A. ’32, exemplifies this. Ruben has worked alongside his brother Gary, for 12 years, serving on the Operations team. During that time, Ruben completed his electrical engineering degree at Cal State Long Beach with tuition support from Poly. Poly also provided a flexible working schedule so that Ruben could attend his classes. Today, he brings a wealth of technical know-how and a fundamental understanding of systems that has had a wide range of applications across campus projects.
Ruben has been able to implement automation processes across many school-wide systems including lighting, HVAC, and solar panels. In the case of the solar panels, in particular, his technical expertise helped Poly analyze and put in place technical configurations that maximize cost savings and minimize our carbon footprint, a true win all around. As Poly seeks to expand our sustainability efforts around solar energy, Ruben’s expertise will continue to be invaluable.
Thank you to our donors who invest in our faculty and staff!
